Playhouse sets 'Wizard of Oz' auditions

The Flat Rock Playhouse announced that auditions for The Wizard of Oz, its first performance of the 2015 season, will be held Friday, Jan. 9, and Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Playhouse Downtown. Auditions will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Callbacks will be the week of Jan. 12.

At the audition actors will learn a short selection from "Oz" in groups, and then perform it separately in audition with a prepared monologue from the original work by L. Frank Baum. The song for the audition will be "We're Off to See the Wizard." The monologue is as follows:
"You have plenty of courage, I am sure. For courage comes from within, all you need is confidence in yourself. There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty."

Director Dave Hart asks that all interested young performers bring a calendar of possible rehearsal conflicts to the audition. In addition to performers, Flat Rock Playhouse is seeking dedicated students interested in assisting in production, stage management, props, costume or running crew.
Commitment dates for performers and technicians selected for the production will include attendance at "Oz" Preparatory Classes, to begin the week of January 19. First rehearsal will be held January 21. The Wizard of Oz will be performed at Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown, March 12-29.
The musical extravaganza retells the beloved story of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion as they journey through the magical land of Oz to meet the wizard.
