Son charged in mother's death

Brendan James Allen

Henderson County sheriff's deputies on Thursday charged a 28-year-old man with murder in the stabbing death of his mother on Dec. 7.

Brendan Allen, charged in the death of his mother, Margaret Kelly, had a first appearance in Henderson County District Court on Thursday after he was extradited from Miami, where he had been held on car theft charges.
Sheriff's deputies responded a month ago to a 911 call from Kelly's daughter saying she had come to her mother's house at 441 North Harper Drive and found her mother unresponsive and covered in blood.
During the course of the investigation detectives learned that Allen, who had been living at the home, was missing along with Kelly's car.
When Allen tried to use his mother's credit card the next day in North Miami Beach, detectives contacted the North Miami Beach Police Department, who went to the location where Allen was using the card and found the man in his mother's car.
He was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and held in Florida until he was extradited back to Henderson County on Wednesday. After further interviews and investigation detectives charged Allen has with first degree murder in the death of Margaret Kelly. He is being held in the Henderson County Detention Facility under no bond.
