County endorses emergency signal for Edneyville VFD

Despite testimony that Edneyville's fire chief knew nothing about it, the Henderson County Board of Commissioners on Monday endorsed an emergency traffic signal at the Edneyville Fire and Rescue Station on U.S. 64.

County Manager Steve Wyatt said the request came from state Sen. Tom Apodaca. Although the fire chief was unaware of it, commissioners speculated that the request must have come from the Edneyville Grange. They agreed to adopt a resolution requesting that the NCDOT work with the Edneyville Fire Department to install an emergency traffic signal "to allow for safe and timely egress onto U.S. Highway 64 when called upon to serve our citizens." The signal would be similar to one at the Mountain Home Fire Department on Asheville Highway, which is activated by firefighters answering an alarm.
