FLAT ROCK — The Flat Rock Playhouse will present the student-produced play The White Rose Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on the Mainstage in Flat Rock.

Written and directed by YouTheatre alumnus Sarah Hart, the play is based on the true story of a handful of college students in Munich during World War II. Working together, they take a powerful stands against Hitler through a movement that quickly spreads from the printed page to the front lines. Despite differing beliefs and backgrounds, the students, using the power of the press, shake the very foundation of the Nazi party's "model" society.
Miss Hart, the 17-year-old author, director and producer, has been working in stage management for the last three years at the Playhouse including Les Miserables, I Never Saw Another Butterfly and Peter Pan Jr.
The cast of The White Rose is made up of more than 30 students, many of them members of the YouTheatre program at Flat Rock Playhouse.
"I saw The White Rose when they presented it at the Hendersonville Little Theatre last November and was blown away by not only their storytelling and honesty within the piece, but also their drive and determination to present this very polished, professional, quality evening of theatre," said Flat Rock Playhouse Artistic Director Lisa K. Bryant. "Sarah approached me right before the holidays to possibly present this at Flat Rock Playhouse and I leapt at the opportunity to showcase the talents of these truly remarkable young adults."
Sponsored by Miller's Fine Drycleaning, the play will be performed at 7:30 each night. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling the Playhouse box office at 828-693-0731, toll-free at 866-732-8008 or online at www.flatrockplayhouse.org.
