Car break-in suspect surrenders

A 28-year-old East Flat Rock man who faces 18 charges in connection with vehicle break-ins and thefts in East Flat Rock and Hendersonville turned himself in to the sheriff's department Friday night.

The sheriff's office said Friday it was looking for Michael Shannon Laster, of 224 Gull Avenue in East Flat Rock, in connection wth the vehicle break-ins reported to the department on Dec. 19. Detectives assigned to the property crimes squad were quickly able to identify Laster as the suspect in the break-ins, the sheirff's office said in a news release, and further investigation linked him to several more vehicle break-ins in the East Flat Rock area. Working with the Hendersonville Police Department, sheriff's investigators linked Laster to recent vehicle break-ins in the city as well.

Laster is charged by the Sheriff's Office with two counts of Breaking and/or Entering a Motor Vehicle, two counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses, three counts of Larceny, five counts of Possession of Stolen Property, and two counts of Damage to Property. Hendersonville Police detectives have charged Laster with two counts of Breaking and/or Entering a Motor Vehicle, and two counts of Larceny.
