Unity Center calls minister

The Rev. Darlene Strickland joined Unity Center of Mills River as senior minister on Sunday, Jan. 4, Unity Board president Joyce Burgess announced.
"Rev. Darlene's contagious passion for evolving and enjoying the gift of life, coupled with her dynamic, inspired speaking style will be a blessing to all who enter our Unity door," Burgess said. " She is known for weaving deep spiritual insights with real life stories and practical tips for living. Her messages are very engaging. Rev. Darlene is also a gifted singer/songwriter who uses music each Sunday to move energy and inspire."
Strickland became an ordained Unity minister in 2004 and had served as the senior minister at Unity of South Sound, Wash., since August 2010. Previously she served in ministries in Lawrence, Kan., Maui, Hawaii, and Unity of the Triangle in Raleigh.
Strickland is also active in the interfaith community. She serves as an ambassador for the Parliament of World Religions and will be leading a group from Western North Carolina to attend the 2015 Parliament of World Religions in Utah in October.
Prior to church ministry, Strickland was a senior executive in the children's toy industry, working with BRIO Toys and TY Inc. A native of North Carolina, she holds a B.S. degree in business management and marketing from Columbia University.
