Henderson Oil Co. donates $500 grants to 11 county schools

Henderson Oil Company and the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance awarded 11 schools $500 grants today for programs at the schools.


The ExxonMobil Educational Alliance grants totaling $5,500 for Henderson County were among 4,100 grants nationwide that totalted $2 million.
Grants went to West Henderson High School, North Henderson High School, Hillandale Elementary School, Mills River Elementary School, Clar Creek Elementary School, East Henderson High School, Flat Rock Middle School, Edneyville Elementary School, Hendersonville High School, Hendersonville Middle School and Glenn C. Marlow Elementary School.

ExxonMobil Educational Alliance grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. This year the alliance awarded 4,100 grants totaling $2,050,000  to schools across the country.

Henderson Oil Company awarded 34 $500 grants for a total of $17,000. Since 2000, Henderson Oil Company and ExxonMobil have provided more than $172,750 in education grants to North Carolina, South Carolina and east Tennessee. Of that number, $88,250 has been awarded to schools in Henderson County.

"We think about the need to have business partners," Superintendent David Jones said. "It's nice to know we've got this kind of support."
