Forecast triggers 12:30 school dismissal

Henderson County schools will dismiss students at 12:30 p.m. today because of the forecast for snow and ice this afternoon. The National Weather Service predicts the area could get 2-5 inches of snow when the winter system moves into the area today and Tuesday.

Snow accumulation of 1-3 inches Monday and up to 2 inches more on Tuesday is possible. The return of sunny skies on Wednesday brings no promise of a warmup. With the wind, bone-chilling cold will be pretty much the order of the day through the week. The forecasters said we'll see a low of 2 degrees Wednesday night and 7 degrees Thursday night. Highs were expected to be 25 on Sunday, 32 on Monday, 36 on Tuesday, 28 on Wednesday and 27 on Thursday. The first above-freezing day was Friday, with a high of 36.
