Let water trickle, city says, to avoid frozen pipes

Due to the extreme cold weather arriving in the area on Thursday and Friday this week, the city's public works department advised residents to let water drip at a trickle (consistent dripping) from one or two faucets inside homes or businesses. This will keep water moving through your pipes at all times which should help prevent your pipes from freezing.

Another helpful tip to prevent your water pipes from freezing is to close foundation vents on your house. This should help reduce the amount of cold air getting underneath your home where your water pipes are most likely located.

If your home or business appears to be without water please contact our office at (828) 697-3073 during regular business hours or (828) 891-7779 after hours, weekends and holidays. We can send someone out to check your service at the water meter.

However, please be aware that the service line from the water meter and the interior plumbing is the homeowner's responsibility and we may not be able to help if the problem is a frozen pipe in either of these locations.

If you do experience a broken water pipe, please contact our Office and we will send someone out to shut off your water service or you may contact one of many licensed plumbers that are permitted by the City to access the City's water meter box in order to shut off your water service and complete the appropriate repair work. We have a complete listing of these permitted plumbers on our website at www.cityofhendersonville.org.

Take action today using these tips to protect your home or business from costly leaks during this cold winter! You don't want to be facing a water pipe repair job in these extreme cold conditions.
