Planners OK new Ingles on Spartanburg Highway

A divided Hendersonville Planning Board reocommended that the City Council OK a new Ingles superstore othat would replace its current store on Spartanburg Highway.

The Planning Board's approval of the project came despite concerns raised by adjoining property owners over traffic, flooding and parking, and despite the fact that one of the property owners has filed a lawsuit challenging the council's decision two years ago to close roadbeds on the Ingles site. The lawsuit is pending.

The zoning application and variances Ingles needs to build the store goes to the Hendersonville City Council on May 7. Gary and Cindy Jones and real estate broker Jim Barnette raised concerns about the project. Jones has filed a lawsuit against the city and Ingles seeking to overturn the City Council's decision in 2013 to close Joel Wright and Copper Penny drives, parallel roads that run through the Ingles parking lot.
