HHS student's PSA on drug abuse wins NC award

Alex Arcara, a junior at Hendersonville High School, won first place in a statewide Stop Rx Abuse PSA Competition for his 30-second spot that urges teenagers to stay away from prescription drug abuse.
His public service announcement shows students spinning a prescription pill bottle and taking the tablets. It ends with the tagline “Don’t Gamble with Your Life.”
Arcara learned about the video contest through HopeRx and the HHS Leadership class led by Bethany Phillis, an HHS teacher.
He is scheduled to accept the award award by Attorney General Roy Cooper next week at the North Carolina Substance Abuse Prevention Conference in Raleigh. On the same day, HopeRx Director Julie Huneycutt will serve on a panel on teenagers and prescription drug abuse.
