LOCAL BRIEFS: Turtles star, Pat's dance recitals, wine tasting

Local briefs cover sea turtle movie, wine tasting, remembering Newtown and Pat's dance recitals:

Sea turtles star in documentary

“Call of the Ancient Mariner,” a new film by Hendersonville filmmaker David Weintraub, will hold its Hendersonville premiere at the Unitarian Fellowship in Hendersonville on Friday, June 12, at 7 p.m.

The documentary drew packed houses and won “Best of the Festival” at the Charleston Film Festival last month.
“Mariner” tells the story of man’s love affair with sea turtles that goes back to the dawn of time. The film was shot throughout the Southeastern U.S. and features original music created by local Western North Carolina musicians.
In addition to the screening of the film that Charleston Film Festival director Paul Brown called “compelling” and “truly resonating with the audience,” the event will include a discussion with the filmmaker and Tom Fanslow, land protection director for Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy; Josh Kelly, public lands biologist for MountainTrue; and Terry Fansler, a member of the Seabrook Turtle Patrol.
After the showing, a DVD release party will be held in the fellowship hall featuring musicians Carol Duermit and Michele Skeele as well as refreshments. DVDs and T-shirts will be available for sale.
The Unitarian Fellowship is at 409 E. Patterson St. off Kanuga Road. To order tickets, visit saveculture.org or call the Center for Cultural Preservation at (828) 692-8062.
