Rae's Kitchen gives moms the night off

Rachel Brackett holds a dinner plate.

Rachel Massagee Brackett knows what it’s like to be a busy young mom who wants to put a good hearty meal on the table. She is betting that everyone else’s appetite for a home-cooked meal is big enough to make her new business thrive.

Brackett operates Rae’s Cottage Kitchen out of a small house on Upward Road at Nello Avenue. A recent menu was bacon-wrapped meatloaf, macaroni and cheese and green salad. A Facebook comment from a happy mom symbolized the market she hopes to tap.
“Rachel, the guys loved their dinners and I loved going to jazzercise instead of the store!” the customer said.
Meals range from $9 to $11.50 for adults and $6.50 to $8 for a child’s plate. She offers discounts of 5 percent for an order of four or five plates and 10 percent for more than six.
Rae’s Cottage Kitchen — tagline: “Homemade meals, all ready to bring home” — takes orders by phone (828-606-2940) and email rachel@raescottagekitchen.com. This week's special? Baked spaghetti, garlic parmesan focaccio and spinach salad.
