County raises tipping fee, adds recycling charges

As part of the 2015-16 budget, the Henderson County Board of Commissioners added fees to several recycled items and raised the tipping fee at the landfill effective July 1.The services are at the transfer station unless otherwise noted.

  • Municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris: $60 per ton, from $57.
  • Clean Masonry Debris: $45 per ton, from $35.
  • Yard Debris and Bulk Debagged Leaves: $45 per ton, from $57.
  • Scrap Tires Ineligible for Free Disposal: $85 per ton.
  • Electronics Recycling: TVs and monitors of all sizes and types will incur a $10 per item fee and must be taken across the scales at the Transfer Station. Television and monitor recycling had been free. All other types of electronics will still be accepted at the convenience center at no charge.
  • Paint Recycling: $2 per gallon container for residents only; liquid paint only, at the transfer station, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on the third Tuesday.

The tipping fee decrease for yard waste “will more accurately reflect the actual yard waste processing fees incurred by Solid Waste,” the county’s environmental programs coordinator, Rachel Hodge, said in an email. “As you can see in the new fee schedule, other items increased or decreased in per ton fees as well, so Solid Waste is projecting that the processing fees for yard waste are balanced by other materials.”
