WEEKEND TIPOFF: Celebrate the Fourth at home or away

Here's your roundup of where to celebrate the Fourth of July — from Lake Lure to the Tryon Equestrian Center to downtown Hendersonville to Etowah Valley, from Friday through Sunday:

Lake Lure

An Independence Day Celebration is set at Hickory Nut Gorge on Friday. A fireworks display can be seen from two different amazing spots – gorgeous Morse Park Meadows and the serene Beach at Lake Lure. The Chamber of Hickory Nut Gorge will be selling Fourth of July treats, baked goods, and snack food by the Welcome Center. Bring the whole gang and some lawn chairs. The beach opens at 8 p.m.

Pisgah National Forest

Acclaimed musicians Laura Boosinger and Josh Goforth will open the annual Songcatchers Music Series Cradle of Forestry in America's at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 5. The musicians will present a varied set of old-time favorites, originals, a little swing and duet harmonies. Boosinger has won glowing reviews wherever she appears. She possesses an "essence of the mountains" spirit that takes you back to the old days when folks huddled around the radio. A Grammy nominee, Goforth is an acclaimed fiddler, guitar picker and mandolin player from Madison County. 

Hendersonville

Downtown Hendersonville celebrates the Fourth of July with an Independence Day parade, an ice cream social at the Historic Courthouse, bluegrass on the Historic Courthouse plaza, a patriotic tribute at the Visitors Center stage and fireworks.

The Hendersonville Merchants and Business Association kicks things off with the parade at 10 a.m. on Main Street from Five Points to Caswell Street.
The Henderson County Heritage Museum will celebrate with a free ice cream social on the steps on the Historic Courthouse.
At 7 p.m. people have a choice of music shows. The Lonesome Road Band, made up of Reese Combs, Paul Eaton and J. Larry Keith, will play from around 7 p.m. until dark. A special Music on Main Street Patriotic Tribute Concert with the 96.5 House Band kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Visitor Center stage at 201 S. Main St. The fireworks show starts at dark.

Tryon Equestrian Center

The popular Zac Brown tribute band “20 RIDE” will be rocking the Tryon International Equestrian Center on the Fourth of July with a free concert in the George Morris International Arena. The Equestrian Center also features a beer garden with more than 50 craft beers, the “Saturday Night Lights” Grand Prix at 6 p.m. and family fun that includes ace painting, airbrush tattoos, a hand painted Venetian carousel, live music, sky-high ballet performances by the Asheville Aerial Artists, eclectically clad stilt walkers, magicians, jugglers and more. The Special Forces Associates Parachute Team will make an encore appearance, floating into the main arena with the American flag.

Brickyard Bash

Etowah Valley Golf & Resort club is sponsoring the Brickyard Bash from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday at the resort, 470 Brickyard Road. The Linesome Road Band plays from 4:30 to 6:30. Food and beverage available for purchase (cash only). Bring lawn chairs.
