No charges in fatal dog mauling, sheriff says

After completing an investigation into the pit bull attack that resulted in the death of a 6-year-old boy on Tuesday, investigators have decided not to bring charges against anyone.

The Criminal Investigations and Animal Enforcement Divisions of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office completed their investigation of the mauling that took the life of Joshua Strother, of 163 Piney Ridge Drive, about 5 p.m. Tuesday. The investigation revealed the pit bull was adopted from the Asheville Humane Society approximately three weeks before the incident. It was noted the organization followed its adoption procedures and the dog was current on its rabies and other recommended vaccinations. Based upon this information, no charges will be filed.

“This was a tragic event for everyone involved,” said Sheriff Charles McDonald. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the families involved.”
