United Way invites nonprofits to submit Day of Caring jobs

Friday, Sept. 11, is the day to LIVE UNITED when volunteers complete dozens of projects to benefit Henderson County non-profit organizations during this year’s Day of Caring.

The day will begin at 7:30 a.m. at United Way of Henderson County on the Kimberly-Clark campus with the 2015 Campaign Kickoff. Afterwards, volunteers will fan out to job sites to begin working.

United Way of Henderson County is encouraging all area non-profit organizations, schools, or government agencies to submit the project(s) they most need completed this year. Project submissions from agencies must be received by Aug. 28.

Last year, 275 Day of Caring volunteers devoted a total of 975 hours working at 33 different projects with 15 local non-profit agencies. Volunteers spread mulch on flower beds and playgrounds, helped organize and label materials, planted a community garden, painted, built wheelchair ramps for shut-ins, read to children and undertook many other activities.

Volunteers may register from Aug. 10 through Sept. 4. Teams and individuals of all skill sets are encouraged to get involved, as there will be a variety of projects to complete. Local businesses, civic groups, clubs, and churches are encouraged to send individuals or teams to volunteer on Sept. 11.
