Clinic wants short-term parking across from HHS

Chiropractic clinic is seeking short-term parking on Bearcat Boulevard.

The Hendersonville City Council has been asked to designate up to three two-hour parking spaces on Bearcat Boulevard across from Hendersonville High School.

Mayor Pro Tem Ron Stephens received a request from the owner of Well Adjusted Chiropractic Clinic, at 312 Bearcat Boulevard (formerly Eighth Avenue West), to designate the short-term parking spaces in front of her office, between Oakland and Buncombe streets. The spaces currently have no time limit and are usually taken by students’ cars before 8 a.m.
“We have huge parking issues when school is in session,” chiropractor Jennifer Hensley said in an email to Stephens. “I know for years there has been talk of actually creating a true ‘parking lot,’ but we still have the problems. We have quite a few elderly that come to my business and it would be really nice for them to be able to park without incident. I am asking again for a few short-term parking spots in front of my business.”
Hendersonville High School is the only high school in the county with no designated student parking lot. Instead, students park along Church Street, Oakland Street, Bearcat Boulevard, Buncombe Street and Ninth Avenue West.

"At this point staff has not taken a position," City Manager John Connet said. "There's not been any kind of limited parking there."

Asked whether granting the request for short-term parking in front of business could trigger more requests from businesses or even homeowners, Connet said, "That's the question. I posed that to Ron and posed it to another council member. If we do this for this business will we be asked for more?"

The council will take up the request during its regular monthly meeting Thursday night.
