Flat Rock to celebrate welcome center at park

The Village of Flat Rock will celebrate the grand opening of the Welcome Center at The Park at Flat Rock at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15.
After opening remarks by Mayor Bob Staton, guests can tour the Welcome Center, which includes the Perry N. Rudnick Community Room and a spacious deck, built through the generosity of Sally and Cam Boyd.

Light refreshments will be provided by the Village and served by the Village Decorating Committee. Representatives from the Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation. Inc. and the Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund will be present, as well as members of the Boyd family.

The Welcome Center is the second feature to be developed in the park, after the perimeter trail. It will provide visitors with information about what is in the park and offer a much-needed space for park volunteers and community groups to work and conduct events. Once completely finished, it will house display cabinets and nature exhibits. The Village Council has also authorized a playground, funded by a donation from Flat Rock residents Kendall Gibson Bryan and Eleanor deSaussure Bryan, and a pavilion.

Anyone wishing to donate towards development of the park is welcome to contribute to the Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation. The Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2013 by the Village of Flat Rock to help raise the funds required to fulfill the vision of a signature municipal park for the community.
