Chamber selects 2015-16 Junior Leaders

The Chamber of Commerce selected 22 students as 2015-16 Junior Leaders.

The Henderson County Chamber of Commerce has chosen 22 juniors from five Henderson County high schools as its Class of 2015-16 Junior Leaders. The juniors attended orientation Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown.

The students, who were recommended for the Junior Leadership Development Program by their schools’ guidance counselors, were welcomed Tuesday night by Steve Dozier, chairman of the Chamber’s board of directors, local McDonald’s owner, past chamber president and program sponsor Chuck Edwards and the school system's senior director of human resources, John Bryant.

"I think being a part of this program is a huge leg up for your education,” Dozier told the students.

Not only is the Junior Leadership Development Program an opportunity to learn about Henderson County’s economy and industries, judicial system and nonprofit organizations, Bryant said the program nurtures students’ leadership potentials.

The Chamber’s project manager, Kristen Morgan, said the goal of the program is to develop a group of well-informed, dynamic community participants. The group will meet once a month starting Oct. 13 through the end of the school year.

The 2015-15 Junior Leaders are Reese Giles and Hannah Lunsford from Henderson County Early College High; Ashelyn Askew, Justin Gonzalez, MacKenzie Hill, Andrew Johnson and Claire Maybin from East Henderson High; Jensen Broadhurst, Vicky Escobar, Drew Eudy, Samuel Lucas and Key’Yonna Sims from Hendersonville High; Will Baldwin, Gracie Gunnels, Jordan Kirkland, Caroline Marsh, and Roberto Santos from North Henderson High; Katlyne Featherstone, Zachary Godwin, Joan Kyung, Dhuru Patel and Sara Sherman from West Henderson High.
