Peggy Marshall of Sugarloaf named principal of the year

Human Resources Director John Bryant surprises Sugarloaf Elementary School principal Peggy Marshall with a bouquet of flowers.

Peggy Marshall, principal at Sugarloaf Elementary School, was named the 2015-16 Principal of the Year for Henderson County Public Schools on Wednesday.

Senior staff surprised Marshall with the news and a bouquet of flowers at a previously scheduled school staff meeting.

“Ms. Marshall is an exceptional school leader, committed to her students, her staff and the Sugarloaf community,” said Senior Director for Human Resources John Bryant. “We are so very fortunate to have her leadership in service of our school system. I can think of no better representative of our system as Principal of the Year.”

The Principal of the Year is nominated by and voted on by his or her peers — the other 22 principals in the Henderson County Public Schools system. Marshall credited Sugarloaf’s teachers and staff with strong leadership and support, and said she’s where she’s meant to be.

“I truly feel like this is my mission field,” Marshall said. “I do what I do because I love it.”
