Funeral set for 2-year-old victim of shooting

A funeral service for Abagail Joanna Newman, the 2-year-old girl who died in an accidental shooting on Monday, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Pace officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

A visitation was scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

The daughter of Jeromy and Angel Bernal Newman, Abagail was carried home to Heaven in the arms of angels on Monday. She was a beautiful and funny little girl who was loved by all who knew her. Abagail loved babies and having her nails painted. She was bossy and sweet and always stood up for herself. She was perfect in every way and was too good for this world.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by older brothers, Jacob and Joseph; maternal grandmother, Debra Shook and husband, Ray, of Easley, SC; maternal grandfather, Eddie Bernal of Etowah; paternal grandparents, Michael and Tracy Maybin, of Hendersonville; maternal great-grandparents, Sandra and Furman Anders of Penrose; aunt, Christy Pablo and husband, Israel; and cousins, Gabriel and Israel Cruz, Jr.; uncle, Derrick Maybin and cousin, Tiffani Anders.

The family asks that everyone please refrain from typical dark attire and dress in a fashion to celebrate Abagail.
