Babysitter charged in shooting death of toddler

Heather Bradburn Stepp

The young mother who was babysitting the 2-year-old accidentally shot to death last week was charged on Monday with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the child's death.

Heather Ann Bradburn Stepp, 28, of 158 Golden Eagle Way in Hendersonville, faces the same felony count as her husband, James Fuller "Bo" Stepp, who was charged last week. The charge arose as a result of the death of Abagail Newman, who died when a loaded shotgun went off. Stepp was at home with her three children and the 2-year-old when the accident happened.

After surrendering to authorities, Heather Stepp was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. Sheriff’s investigators have worked closely with the District Attorney’s Office in this case and no additional charges are being considered at this time, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
