Roman Gabriel III brings alcohol abstinence program to schools

Roman Gabriel III, a former pro football player and son of former Los Angeles Rams and N.S. State quarterback Roman Gabriel, will visit Henderson County middle school students Monday and Tuesday to promote alcohol abstinence and character development.
Gabriel is president of North Carolina Sold Out, an alcohol abstinence that since 2012 has educated more than 250,000 students, hundreds of teachers, coaches and countless parents on the dangers of under-aged drinking.
Sold Out’s mission is to reduce under-aged drug and alcohol use in schools and communities through educating students through assemblies and ongoing online abstinence and character curriculum. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 28 percent of 8th graders and 68 percent of high school seniors had tried alcohol and 10 percent of 8th graders and 39 percent of 12th graders had drank during the past month.
The Sold Out has seen up to 70 percent of North Carolina and Tennessee students take a public alcohol abstinence pledge and to be accountable to their teachers, coaches, parents and fellow students.
Sold Out programs are located in the following counties: Avery, Watauga, Guilford, Mitchell, Lee, Newton Conover, Yadkin, Henderson, Newton Conover City Schools, Wilkes, Onslow, Pender, Bladen, Wayne, Person, Pitt, Harnett, Brunswick, etc. The Sold Out Henderson County Program is supported by the Hendersonville ABC Board.
