Widespread power outage affects city

A power outage affected 1,593 customers in central Hendersonville including Pardee Hospital, the Grove Street Courthouse and the Blue Ridge Mall.Henderson County Emergency Management Coordinator Rocky Hyder said no wind or rain from last night's rain had caused the outage. He had a call into Duke Energy officials to find out the cause.

"I got a call from the Pardee security force and they said, yes, we're on generator power," he said.

The Duke Energy said on its website that the outage had been reported around 6 a.m. today. A crew is on the scene and the utility projected that electricity would be restored by 12:30 p.m.
