Playhouse sets auditions for youth productions

Flat Rock Playhouse Studio 52 will hold auditions next month for the spring production of James and the Giant Peach.

The show will be directed by Dave Hart and performed at the Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown from March 10-20. Auditions will take place 4-7 p.m. Jan. 8 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kan. 9 at Studio 52, 1855 Little River Road, in Flat Rock. An Audition Prep Class will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 6 and 7. Cost of the class is $50. Actors cast in James and the Giant Peach must attend acting and tech classes as instructed.
Studio 52 will also produce Time, an all-student crafted piece. A cross between The Breakfast Club and H.G Wells’s The Time Machine, the show centers on eight students learning more about North Carolina history. They become part of the Wright Brothers’ first flight, the Underground Railroad, World War II, the Trail of Tears and then finally make a visit to The Lost Colony. The show has been created as an educational adventure available for elementary and middle school performances in January 2016.
Studio 52 will also present an all-student performed and produced production of Alice in Wonderland: the Musical from April 1-3 at the Playhouse Downtown directed by Olivia Palmer. Auditions will take place 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 22 and 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 23. An Audition Prep Class will be held Jan. 20 and 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost of the class will be $40. As with James and the Giant Peach, there are required classes for students cast in Alice in Wonderland: the Musical in musical performance and tech for those interested in costume or set design, art direction or puppetry.
Studio 52 will also perform A Thousand Cranes at the Playhouse Downtown Nov. 11-20. Audition and rehearsal details will be announced later.
For those looking to strengthen existing skills or explore the world of theatre for the first time, enrollment for Spring at Studio 52 is open now and includes additional acting classes from Jan. 26 through April 20. The classes are appropriate for beginning and returning students and offer early registration discounts. Courses will include:
