Reindeer Run returns on Christmas Eve

Ryan Jones announces the race start at the inaugural Reindeer Run on Christmas Eve of 2014.

The second annual Reindeer Run 5k will be held at 9 a.m. on Christmas Eve at North Henderson High School.

“Thanks to your incredible support last year, the Jones Family Scholarship Reindeer Run/Walk 5K is back,” race founder and NHHS alumnus Ryan Jones said in a news release. Jones, who earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in sports administration from the University of North Carolina, is director of major gifts at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago.
The Reindeer Run is a fun run/walk that welcomes all ages and skill levels. Costumes are welcome too. The race route is along North Henderson’s cross country trail, which is primarily wooded with portions on pavement. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for students and children 18 and under.
“We expect over 100 entrants this year, and to build on last year’s success (raised over $1,000 in 2014),” Jones said. “Due to this success we were able to increase the funding for future recipients of the award.”
Proceeds go to Jones Family Scholarship, which Jones founded four years ago to create a scholarship that helps one graduating senior of North Henderson High School attend a two- or four-year college. Recipients must exhibit need, as well as leadership qualities that demonstrate a willingness to give back to their community and mentor future scholarship recipients. The first recipients were Isaac Dalton, Kaylene Lee and Leah Pryor. For information contact Ryan Jones at rhj182@gmail.com.
