Veteran Valley Hill firefighter loses house in fire

Valley Hill firefighter Dwight Hill lost his house on Stanwood Lane to a fire on Wednesday.

Valley Hill firefighters responding to a house fire learned that the home belonged to one of their own.

When firefighters received the call of the house fire at 1398 Stanwood Lane, they recognized the address as being the home of one of their own firemen, Valley Hill Fire & Rescue Chief Tim Garren said in a news release.

The homeowner, Dwight Hill, has been a Valley Hill firefighter for more than 30 years and never expected to respond to a structure fire at his own residence, much less experience the devastation of his home being a total loss. Hill, his father, Bill Hill, and his  brothers John, Al, and Gary all have served as firefighters with Valley Hill Fire & Rescue; the Hill family has dedicated their entire life serving and protecting the citizens of Henderson County.
A bank account has been set up at Bank of NC for anyone wishing to make a donation as a way of giving back to this family, donations can be made payable to the “Dwight Hill Benefit Fund”.
