Son charged in father's murder

A 40-year-old man has been charged with his father's murder after the victim's body was found Thursday morning, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office received a call at 9:20 a.m. regarding a possible death at 110 Oakwood Road near Mountain Home. Deputies and emergency service personnel arrived and found 66-year-old Terry Anthony Butler deceased. Detectives determined the death was suspicious in nature and the investigation continued.

The Sheriff’s Office had asked for the public’s assistance in locating the Terry Butler’s son, Joey Allen Butler. Last night detectives with the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigations Division located Joey Butler on Asheville Highway, not far from his Oakwood Road home.

After further investigation and interviews, Joey Butler was charged with second-degree murder in connection with his father’s death. A warrant for his arrest charged Butler with beating his father to death with a wooden bat wrapped in black tape.

An autopsy is scheduled for today at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Butler is under a $200.000.00 secured bond and will have his first appearance in District Court of Henderson County this morning.
