Arts Council presents ‘Mentors & Students’

The Arts Council of Henderson County will present a series of exhibitions in the Mentors & Students shows through March 18 at The Art House Gallery, 5 Highland Park Road, in East Flat Rock. Celebrating the importance of art in a child’s life, the three exhibitions feature the work of Henderson County elementary students and secondary students and their art mentors.


The Art of Our Children elementary student exhibition opened Friday. The program features Abe Lincoln stories by Elena Diana Miller. Hours for Art of Our Children are Tuesday, Feb. 16, through Friday, Feb. 19, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Art Teachers Create, featuring the artwork of Henderson County’s art teachers, will open Friday, Feb. 26, and close Friday, March 4. Artwork will be for sale during the mentors exhibition. Hours for the exhibition will be Saturday, Feb. 27, from noon until 4 p.m. and Tuesday, March 1, through Friday, March 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. The public will have a chance to win a piece of art from the show in a raffle sponsored by Sharon Ashe, director of 6-12 Math/Science/Art/World Language for Henderson County public schools.
Secondary students will be featured in the third show of the series, Artists of Tomorrow, opening Friday, March 11, and closing Friday, March 18. The opening at 5:30 p.m. on March 11 will include the announcement of awards, including a Best of Show award of $150, sponsored and presented by the Art League of Henderson County. Hours for the exhibition will be Saturday, March 12, from noon until 4 p.m. and Tuesday, March 15, through Friday, March 18, from 3 to 6 p.m.
All exhibitions are free and open to the public. Mentors & Students is sponsored by The Art House Gallery, First Citizens Bank, and the Dr. Minor F. Watts Fund at the Community Foundation of Henderson County.
