Festival names 2016 Apple Ambassador

Savanna Prince Roper is the 2016 Apple Ambassador.

A rising senior at Hendersonville High School has been named the 2016 Apple Ambassador to represent the apple industry at the annual North Carolina Apple Festival and at other events.

Savanna Prince Roper, the daughter of Jeff and Lauren Roper, will be awarded a $2,000 college scholarship.

Students competing for the ambassador title are required to submit transcripts, list of activities and letters of recommendation and write an essay on the Apple Festival and the importance of the apple industry to this area. The Apple Ambassador is selected based on this information and through an interview process.

The Apple Ambassador is awarded the Evelyn Lutz Hill Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship honors Ms. Hill, who served as the Secretary of the North Carolina Apple Growers for many years. She was serving as the President of the North Carolina Apple Festival, when she passed away in 2004.

The runner up was Sheridan Nicole Mentch of East Henderson High School. She is awarded a $1,000 college scholarship. She is the daughter of Debbie and Mike Mentch.

The other participants and their high school this year were:
Dallis Olivia Gulliams - West Henderson
Sierra Lynn Vaughn - West Henderson
Meghan Ruth Reid - Hendersonville
MacKenna Maria Williams - East Henderson
Maya Sarita Ellis - North Henderson
Dena Elaine Nix - North Henderson
