Weather Channel to feature Hendersonville in fall celebration

Apples will be featured when the Weather Channel comes to Hendersonville to celebrate the first day of fall on Thursday.

Hendersonville is among four cities across the U.S. that will be featured when the Weather Channel celebrates the first day of fall on Thursday.

“Fall around America” will feature four cities and the best fall activities the towns have to offer, including apples in Henderson County. Jim Cantore, cohost of the Weather Channel's morning show, will be based in Hendersonville.

"They're going to be filming around town tomorrow," said Tara Ledbetter, spokeswoman for the city of Hendersonville. Producers asked city officials for the names of apple orchards and the city provided several. "They picked Grandad's to broadcast from because they also have the corn maze and they wanted that," Ledbetter said.

Cantore will interview the growers who operate Grandad's and also Mark Williams, the executive director of Agriculture HC, which promotes farming in Henderson County. "He wanted me to find somebody else to interview in the apple industry and I'm working on that," Ledbetter said.

City officials offered numerous other destinations to film for the fall feature, including the Flat Rock Ciderworks downtown, DuPont State Forest, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and Jump Off Rock.

"It was between us and Asheville and they picked us," Ledbetter said. "They really decided they wanted to focus on the apple industry so that's when they confirmed with us."

“Fall around America” will also feature cohosts Jen Carfagno in Breckenridge, Colo., Maria LaRosa in Circleville, Ohio, and correspondent Justin Michaels in Cape Cod, Mass.
