During the holiday shopping season the chance of someone becoming a victim of theft significantly increases. Sheriff Charles McDonald reminded everyone of a few simple tips that can reduce your chances of becoming a victim of a vehicle break-in:

· Always lock your car when it is unattended.
· If you leave valuables in your car, keep them out of sight or lock them in your trunk.
· Do not park at your destination and then hide your valuables. Thieves will often watch parking lots for unsuspecting victims putting their valuables out of sight when they arrive.
· Park in well-traveled and well-lit areas of parking lots. Thieves do not want to be seen committing their crimes.
· Engage your vehicles theft-deterrent system, if so equipped, but don’t depend on it to be the single source solution to prevent crime.
