Voters choose city leaders, decide bond issue today

Polls opened at 6:30 a.m. and will close at 7:30 p.m. for today's elections.


Hendersonville voters have the biggest ballot, with races for mayor and City Council and the $6 million Berkeley Mills Park issue. All polling places in the city are open.
Voters in Mills River, Laurel Park, Fletcher, Flat Rock and Saluda also will elect leaders.
In contested races, Hendersonville City Councilman Ron Stephens is challenging Mayor Barbara Volk. Challengers Diane Caldwell and Jeff Miller and incumbents Jeff Collis and Jerry Smith are running for two seats on the council.
In Laurel Park Lou Lunardoni and incumbents Paul Hansen and Dona Mennella are running for two seats.
In Fletcher, Dennis Justice is challenging Mayor Bill Moore.
In Mills River James Cantrell and Billy Johnston are running for the District 2 seat held by Lois Pryor, who is retiring.
Running for Saluda City Commission are Carolyn Ashburn, Karen Burns Bultman, incumbent Johnnie Kinard, Hobart "Sunny" Pace Jr., Mark Oxtoby, Ellen Wilkinson Rogers and incumbent George S. Sweet.

The Flat Rock Village Council and Fletcher Town Council candidates should be elected without opposition.
