Construction value up 44%

Housing starts and renovations continued to show an upward trend this calendar year and for the first 11 months of the fiscal year, the Henderson County Inspections Department reported.

Contractors pulled 49 permits for new residential units in May and 194 so far this year, up 6.6 percent. The fiscal year total through May was 427, up 6 percent. Residential remodeling permits totaled 717 for the 11-month period, up 9 percent.
The overall value of new residential construction for the fiscal year through May was up 15 percent, at $103.6 million while the value of new commercial work totaled $55.4 million, up 168 percent. The overall construction value from July 1 through May 31 was $159 million, up 43.6 percent. The overall value of residential and commercial remodeling and additions held steady at $35.5 million, up just .5 percent from the comparable period in 2015-16.
