Honoring fallen soldiers

North Carolina State Elks Association President Frank T. Brady participated in the Memorial Day ceremony at the Forest Lawn Veterans Cemetery in Hendersonville. On behalf of Hendersonville Elks Lodge #1616, Brady placed a wreath at the memorial in honor of the fallen soldiers who made our way of life possible. The American way of life was paid for on the shoulders of those who paid the ultimate price. Elks Lodge programs help to support homeless veterans; V.A. hospital and State Veterans Nursing home programs; and the North Carolina State Elks Association fundraisers to supply vans, TVs and other items for hospitalized veterans. 

Fletcher concert series moves to Blue Ghost

 


Fletcher Parks & Recreation will open its summer concert series at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 11, with the Flashback band. This year the Summer concert series moves to a new venue in Fletcher, the Blue Ghost Brewing Co., at 125 Underwood Road in Fletcher, in the Firefly Meadow with lots of open space for everyone. The free concert is sponsored by Hunter Subaru of Fletcher. The Hungry Ghost food truck will be on site. Other acts are Tuxedo Junction on July 9 and the Super ’60s band Aug. 13.

 

Thursday Thrift Shop reopens

 

St. James Episcopal Church Hendersonville has reopened its Thursday Thrift Shop after the Covid-forced closure more than a year ago. The shop is open Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over the years, the Thursday Thrift Shop has donated over $1.6 million to area organizations including the Hendersonville Rescue Mission, IAM, The Storehouse, Housing Assistance Corporation, Feed the Kids Coalition and Homes for Youth, among others.

Three guided history walks scheduled in June

Hendersonville Guided History Walks offers 90-plus minute walks in three historic areas of town: along Main Street (Friday, June 11, 10 a.m.), in Oakdale Cemetery (Friday, June 18, 10 a.m.), and in the Historic Seventh Avenue District (Friday, June 25, 10 a.m.). Cost for each tour is $10 per person 10 years and older. Children under 10 are free with a paid adult. Appropriate guidelines for safety and health are practiced. Education Foundation awards 24 scholarships

The Henderson County Education Foundation awarded 24 scholarships worth $37,500 to graduating seniors in Henderson County public schools.
