Cummings Cove donates $56,000 to Free Clinics

Cummings Cove homeowners presented a check for $56,000 on Thursday to The Free Clinics, the highest amount they have donated in the 10 years of the golf community's charity fundraising for local nonprofits.

Since 2012 Cummings Cove Cares has participated in a fundraising effort every 3 years for local area charities. On Thursday they presented the check to Judith Long, executive director of The Free Clinics.

“On behalf of the almost 2700 vulnerable patients cared for at The Free Clinics, I am profoundly grateful for the amazing generosity of the Cummings Coves community," Long said. "As a volunteer-based organization that seeks to maximize every dollar received, we are proud to note that every dollar received from CCC will provide $5 worth of care to our neighbors in need."

Cummings Cove raised the money through a variety of community projects and activities including golf and pickleball tournaments, outings at area breweries, card games, cornhole, bocce ball, pool volleyball as well as the sale of originally created greeting cards from Cummings Cove photographers, and the generous donations by residents. The fundraising efforts wrapped up with a silent auction Sept. 16 of donations from many community merchants, golf courses and individual craftspeople, many of them residents of Cummings Cove.

"I am so proud of our neighborhood and our outstanding campaign that has raised the most money ever for a community organization," said Donna Izor, chairwoman of Cummings Cove Cares. "We were very successful because so many neighbors gave of their talent and time, and generously donated to support The Free Clinics. We are proud to be joining with The Free Clinics in their mission of caring for neighbors in need."

Cummings Cove was also able to donate volunteer hours and much needed fresh vegetables to The Free Clinics. Through the Cummings Cove Victory Garden donations of approximately 1,000 pounds of vegetables will be delivered to TFC patients this growing season.

The Free Clinics enhances the healthcare system in Henderson County & neighboring communities to ensure the accessibility of quality healthcare for uninsured, low-income clients. The Free Clinics works with volunteers and partnering healthcare providers to provide healthcare, prevention, education, medication access, and case management services, including specialty referrals.
