Amariah Davis and Johnny Jennings welcomed James Charles Jennings on New Year's Day.
The first baby of 2025 to be delivered at the Baby Place at AdventHealth arrived 18 minutes after noon on New Year's Day, Advent announced.
James Charles Jennings is the first child for proud parents Amariah Davis and Johnny Jennings. The couple, who live in Fletcher, chose AdventHealth specifically for the delivery because of the exceptional care Amariah had received in the past.
"AdventHealth has been such an amazing place for me.” she said. “I've come here for the last couple years and every time I'm here I'm treated with the utmost respect and (receive) the best care. When I first found out I was pregnant, for a solid two weeks I was trying to find an OB that was associated with AdventHealth just so I could deliver here. I love this place. It's amazing here."
While Amariah and Johnny had been eagerly anticipating their child's arrival on his due date of Jan. 10, baby James had other plans. They named James after Amariah’s Papaw, who passed away in 2024.
"I hope he is able to live the kind of life my Papaw lived, surrounded by loved ones, and that he is a strong hardworking man," Amariah said. "He's going to succeed in life. I'm going to make sure of that."
The delivery was overseen by Dr. Anita Leis, an OB hospitalist, along with labor and delivery nurses Susan Isler and Asha Oakes.
A vital part of The Baby Place's commitment to providing exceptional care for expectant mothers, Advent's OB hospitalists program ensures that there is an experienced obstetrician available around the clock to handle any emergencies or complications that may arise during labor and delivery.
In Amariah's case, her regular doctor was out of town. But thanks to the OB hospitalists program, Dr. Leis was on duty and able to step in to care for Amariah throughout her labor and delivery. The comprehensive approach to care was critical in managing the situation when James was born with the umbilical cord around his neck and his blood pressure dropping. The expertise and readiness of Leis, combined with the support of the skilled nurses, ensured that James arrived safely and that both mother and baby received the best possible care.
“The hospitalist did amazing," Amariah said. "She was very kind; she did a great job. She delivered my baby safely, and he's healthy even with the scary moment with the cord around his neck."
