FILING OPENS MONDAY: Here's seats, salaries, filing fees

Districts 1, 2 and 4 are on the ballot for seats on the Henderson County Board of Commissioners.

Filing for local, state and federal offices opens at noon Monday and new names could appear up and down the ballot as current office holders try to move up.

The announcement by U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn that he will see re-election to Congress in the new 13th Congressional District instead of his current district triggered a stampede into the race by Republican candidates. The field grew to six this week when state Sen. Chuck Edwards announced that he will seek the nomination for the 14th Congressional District seat, renumbered after redistricting. If state Rep. Tim Moffitt were to file for the Senate seat, that would create an opening in Moffitt's House District 117.

Filing is open from noon Monday through noon Friday, Dec. 17. Here are the offices, incumbents, salaries and filing fees for offices on the ballot in 2022:

• N.C. Senate District 48 (open): $13,951, $140
• N.C. House District 113 (Jake Johnson) and District 117 (Tim Moffitt): $13,951, $140
• District Attorney for Henderson, Transylvania and Polk counties (Andrew Murray): $137,399, $1,374
• Henderson County Clerk of Superior Court (J. Tyler Ray): $110,300, $1,103.
• Henderson County Board of Commissioners (District 1, Michael Edney; District 3, Bill Lapsley; District 4, Rebecca McCall): $24,000, $240.
• Henderson County Register of Deeds (Lee King): $90,040, $900.
• Henderson County Sheriff (Lowell Griffin): $127,849, $1,278.
• Henderson County School Board (Dot Case, Jay Egolf, Amy Lynn Holt), $3,600, $36. (Non-partisan race not on the March primary ballot)
