Filing for local, state and federal offices opens at noon Monday and new names could appear up and down the ballot as current office holders try to move up.
The announcement by U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn that he will see re-election to Congress in the new 13th Congressional District instead of his current district triggered a stampede into the race by Republican candidates. The field grew to six this week when state Sen. Chuck Edwards announced that he will seek the nomination for the 14th Congressional District seat, renumbered after redistricting. If state Rep. Tim Moffitt were to file for the Senate seat, that would create an opening in Moffitt's House District 117.
