Cooper appoints judge to fill District Court vacancy

Lora T. Baker has been appointed to serve as District Court judge in Judicial District 29B, serving Henderson, Polk and Transylvania counties, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Emily Cowan of Hendersonville, Gov. Roy Cooper announced.

Baker had most recently been a partner at Feagan Law Firm and the attorney for the town of Columbus. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Baker earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the School of Journalism with a second major in Political Science. After graduation from UNC, Baker attended the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University, where she received her JD in May 2008. She and her husband, Matthew, live in Saluda with their dogs Roo and Raleigh.
