Anne Coletta running for Flat Rock Village Council

FLAT ROCK — Anne Coletta, leader of the citizen uprising that fought the Highland Lake Road widening, said Wednesday that she is running for her old seat on the Flat Rock Village Council.

A member of the Village Council until 2017, Coletta formed the Cultural Landscape Group: Flat Rock in early 2018 to organize opposition to the Highland Lake project, which opponents considered unnecessary and disruptive. She will be running for the District 2 seat held by Ginger Brown. Besides the Highland Lake project, the group that Coletta leads also has expressed skeptism about greenways in Flat Rock and demanded more openness in long-range planning.

Coletta's entry into the race could signal that the anti-widening forces are preparing to run a slate of candidates in an effort to take control of the seven-member Village Council. Vice Mayor Nick Weedman, who is running for mayor, cast the only no vote against the Highland Lake Road widening. John Dockendorf, the District 3 incumbent, is not running for re-election. With Weedman's run for mayor, the District 1 seat is also open.
