TDA invites homeowners and businesses to compete in Christmas decorations

The Henderson County Tourism Development Authority is inviting homeowners and businesses to compete in the Home Holiday Decoration Contest and the Merchant Holiday Decoration Contest.

With each contest, the outside of the business or home will be judged and voted on by the public, who will go online to select their favorite displays. Voting will take place Dec. 1-17 on Henderson County Tourism’s website. Registration to compete in either contest closes at the end of the day on Friday, Nov. 26. Register  here for the home contest and here for the business contest.

“These contests have become increasingly popular for both visitors and locals, and since people can explore and view the displays in their own time, it is a fun, potentially multi-evening activity for families and groups of all sizes,” stated Amy Boswell, Asset and Event Development Coordinator at the HCTDA. “In terms of why businesses may want to compete, this is an easy, free way to get additional exposure to their storefront, increasing their holiday sales.”

To compete in the Home Holiday Decoration Contest, homes must be located in Henderson County on a public road, and displays must be viewable from the street.

To compete in the Merchant Holiday Decoration Contest, the only stipulation is that the business must be located in Henderson County. Past participants have included stores, restaurants, hotels and other accommodations as well as non-profits, medical offices and more.

Winners will be selected from each category and will receive prizes as well as bragging rights.
