LIGHTNING PHOTOS: Christmas light show set to debut

The "12 Days of Christmas" light show with synchronized music and a Santa's village debuts tonight at the fairgrounds at the WNC Agriculture Center in Fletcher.


Crews worked through the night in a cold rain Thursday night to get the show made of nearly one million lights ready by sunset today.

From a partridge in a pear tree to three French hen to five gold rings and 12 drummers drumming, the light show portrays the "Twelve Days of Christmas" with an animated show. It takes about a half hour to drive through, Shadrack's says.

Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland bills itself as "the world's largest drive-through, fully synchronized LED Christmas light and music show." Music for the show incldues "Carol of the Bells" by David Foster, "The Christmas Dance" by Go Fish, "Christmas with a Capital C" by Go Fish, "Dance of the Reed Flutes" and " Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from the Nutcracker, the "Hallelujah Chorus" by Handel, "Joy to the World" by Go Fish, "Nutrocker" by Trans-Siberia Orchestra, "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson, "Stille Nacht" by Mannheim Steamroller and "Wizards in Winter" by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

The Bristol, Tenn.-based boat dealer and entertainment company also has shows in Sevierville, Tenn.; New Market, Md., and Myrtle Beach.
The show is open from dusk to 10 p.m. (or later on weekends) every day including holidays. Admission, which is bought at the gate, is $20 for cars, $30 for activity vans or mini-buses, $30 for limousines and $75 for tour buses and school buses. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Visitors tune to a low-frequency radio signal to hear the music.
The Trolley Company in Hendersonville will offer both charters and trips open to the public. Shuttles will leave from the Visitors Center at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Each trip will allow time for a visit to Santa's Village. She was told the drive through the light show takes about 30 minutes.
