Youth club staffer receives top rookie award

Savanna Clark of Flat Rock, a rising senior at Mars Hill University, has received the North Carolina Rookie of the Year award from Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Clark is a staff member of Boys and Girls Clubs of Henderson County, which nominated her for the award. One of her primary responsibilities is helping students with homework in the organization's after school program.
There are more than 4,000 local BGC chapters across the nation, and each of them may nominate a staff member for the award. The organization gives the award to 50 staff members nationwide — one from each state.
"The award recognizes someone who shows up, who is diligent, who puts a lot of herself into the job," said Jessica Edney, Resource Development Coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club. "The Rookie of the Year is someone who relates well to our children and who is a good role model. Savanna is all of those things, and we felt that she would be an excellent choice for this award."
