Vietnam vets offered half-price seats for 'Miss Saigon'

Eddie Egan and Diane Huey star in Miss Saigon at the Flat Rock Playhouse July 24-Aug. 24.

The Flat Rock Playhouse is thanking and honoring veterans of the Vietnam War for their service and sacrifice by offering the veterans and their families half-price tickets the first week of Miss Saigon, July 24-26.

"It is important to us as an institution and member of this community to make sure our veterans, particularly those who served in Vietnam, receive recognition and honor for their sacrifice," Hillary Hart, managing director for the Flat Rock Playhouse, said in a news release. "As it is never our intent to unpleasantly surprise our audiences, we want to make sure that those veterans who do attend the show are aware that Miss Saigon will contain an honest portrayal of the Vietnam War including some emotionally powerful imagery and sound."
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War with groups across the country commemorating this important era in American history. The Playhouse is working with groups like the NC Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association to ensure sensitivity and bestow recognition to this group of veterans in particular. The Playhouse plans to display an OH-6 Helicopter on the Rock at the Mainstage, on loan from the NC Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association, from Saturday, July 19, until Saturday, Aug. 2. The same helicopter has been displayed for Miss Saigon performances in Raleigh with positive feedback.
The veterans' tickets are available at the box office, in person or by phone. Veterans can call the box office at 828-693-0731 and mention the code VET.

Performances of Miss Saigon are 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. All tickets are $40 and can be purchased by calling the Playhouse box office at 828-693-0731, toll-free at 866-732-8008 or online at www.flatrockplayhouse.org.
