Friends, family and supporters holding Tom Orr Day on Saturday

Friends of Tom Orr are holding Tom Orr Day at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Courthouse Plaza to celebrate his life and his many contributions to the community.


Speakers and presentations include opening remarks by Hilliard Staton, national anthem by Matthew Rogers, Orr family introductions, Robert Morgan’s introduction to Orr’s new book, read by Steve Carlisle; Tom’s many friendships, by Gary Jones; his leadership role in saving the Historic Courthouse, by Judy Abrell; being a student of Tom Orr, by David Drake, Hendersonville High School class of 1967; a teacher’s perspective, by Kaye Youngblood; Orr’s founding of the Walk of Fame, by Ronnie Pepper; his work to create plays, dramas and other events, by Pat Shepherd; and his upcoming book, by McCray Benson.
Attendees are invited to bring a chair.
The public recognition for the county native, Hendersonville High School graduate, longtime HHS English and drama teacher and senior play director comes as his family, friends and former students are urging the School Board to name the school auditorium the Thomas E. "Tom" Orr auditorium.
