LIGHTNING PHOTOS: Bear auction breaks record again

The 19th edition of the Bearfootin' Bear Auction raised $102,400 for charities and the Friends of Downtown, breaking last year's total of $84,109, which was 49 percent higher than 2019.

Bear artists, nonprofit leaders, city leaders and the Friends of Downtown celebrated the end of the Bearfootin' auction with music and bidding on Saturday afternoon until the 6 p.m. deadline. Emcees Brian Byrd and city Economic Development Director Lew Holloway cheerled for the bidding for the 20 bears and announced the new record when the bidding ended.
