What do you do in your volunteer job?

I’ve been fortunate to do many things…membership chair for the volunteer group; serve on the Development Committee; provide airport transportation to out of town actors; prepare meals for summer apprentices; help plan the major fundraiser gala; provide dinner pickup for people who ordered them for virtual performances during Covid; speak to groups about why I support Flat Rock Playhouse; and clean library and stuff envelopes. Whatever they need, I’m happy to do.

How long have you been volunteering?

Since 2015, right after we moved to Flat Rock.

Why do you volunteer?

No matter where we’ve lived, I’ve always believed in giving back to my community to help give us all a better place to live, and because we love the performing arts.

What’s the best thing about volunteering?

Getting to know the staff, seeing how hard they work, feeling a part of their organization, and sharing their pride and passion for a job well done.

If someone is interested in volunteering, what advice would you give based on your own experience?

First, find an organization that does something you’re really interested in. Second, ask yourself, “Does the staff have passion about their mission and do they follow it with integrity?” Third, look for ways to contribute that match your skills, talents, and resources so that you can have fun and share in the pride in that job well done.
