Developer restarts rezoning application for 460-unit development

A second neighborhood compatibility meeting on a 460-unit development off Tracy Grove Road will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 18, in the City Operations Center, 305 Williams St.

Applicant Mike Washburn is seeking a rezoning of 161 acres from Planned Residential Development to Planned Residential Development Conditional Zoning District for the construction of a multi-family development consisting of 300 apartments and 160 single-family homes.

Homeowners near the site on Wilmont Drive raised concerns about traffic, density, wildlife and aquatic life as they objected to a rezoning request during the first neighborhood compatibility meeting last November. Twenty-three people attended in person while others joined via Zoom and around a dozen people expressed opposition. Residents of Wilmont Drive, Dogwood Lane, Tracy Grove Road, Dana Road and Orrs Camp Road objected to the rezoning.

Development plans call for the combination of 300 rental apartments, 90 patio homes and 70 single-family homes to be accessed from Wilmont Road. The 161-acre parcel overlooks a mountain bog between Jackson Park and Four Seasons Boulevard. Valued for tax purposes at $877,900, the land is vacant except for one dwelling.
