Historic Johnson Farm seeks volunteers

Historic Johnson Farm will host an information session for prospective volunteers at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the farm, 3346 Haywood Road, across from Rugby Middle School.

There is no weekly or even monthly commitment to volunteer. Some come regularly on the same day each week; others come when they are able. Among the volunteer opportunities are working on the grounds crew or as a gardener, serving as a tour guide, assisting with school field trips, helping with special events, cleaning the historic farmhouse and more.
Every Monday morning, a group of volunteers meets to maintain the grounds and provide simple maintenance. Mowing, weed-eating, cutting small trees, changing light bulbs, and minor repairs are just some of the things the group works on. The gardening group also meets on Mondays to maintain the gardens and flower beds.

For those more interested in working with the public, field trip leaders and tour guides are always needed. Field trip volunteers help when classes of students come to the farm. They lead programs in the farmhouse, school house and barn. Guides lead tours of the historic farmhouse.

Anyone interested in volunteering but unable to make the information session, may contact the farm at 828-891-6585 or jfarm@hcpsnc.org
